Karim Bellarabi’s International Future Sparks Morocco-Germany Debate
Karim Bellarabi, the German-born winger of Moroccan descent, could soon face a pivotal decision regarding his international career. Following the loss of Munir El Haddadi to Spain, Morocco’s national team is determined not to lose another promising talent to a European side.
Moroccan coach Badou Zaki is expected to announce his squad in October for upcoming friendlies against the Central African Republic (9 October) and Kenya (13 October). Bellarabi, 24, currently at Bayer Leverkusen, is included in a preliminary list of 33 players, signalling Morocco’s intent to secure his allegiance.
However, the winger remains eligible to represent Germany, having previously featured in their youth teams. Bellarabi can only commit to Morocco by playing in an official competitive match.
Germany coach Joachim Löw has openly expressed his interest in the player, emphasizing the close attention his staff is paying to Bellarabi’s progress. “Bellarabi has been on our radar for a long time,” Löw said. “Despite the strong competition on the wings, he is capable of adding value to the national team.”
As the deadline approaches, Bellarabi’s decision will be closely watched by both footballing nations, each hoping to secure his talents for their future campaigns.
