Morocco is a great team and a strong contender for AFCON 2025 title – Comoros coach Stefano Cusin
Comoros coach Stefano Cousin has hailed the Moroccan national team ahead of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations opener.
In a high-stake clash on Sunday evening, the Atlas Lions will lock horns with Comoros at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, with both teams seeking for a flying start to the tournament in the North African country.
The tournament, which kick start on December 21, runs until January 18, 2026, with 24 countries battling for the ultimate title.
Speaking ahead of the match, the Italian tactician acknowledged the difficulty in facing Morocco, likening the crucial match to attempting to climb Mount Everest, given the strength of the home team and the significant difference in experience.
“Morocco is a great team and a strong contender for the title, especially after their historic achievement in the World Cup, but we will not play with a purely defensive mindset. We have a technically gifted team, and it would be a mistake to simply defend without utilizing our capabilities.”
Despite acknowledging Morocco quality, Cousin insists his outfit will play the Atlas Lions without pressure.
“We will play without pressure, and if we achieve a positive result, it will be a great accomplishment for us.” He concluded.
