Morocco grant Achraf Hakimi extra time after PSG’s Champions League triumph
Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi has given Achraf Hakimi permission to join the national team camp later than scheduled as the defender continues to celebrate Paris Saint-Germain’s historic UEFA Champions League success.
The decision comes as the Atlas Lions continue their preparations at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Morocco keen to carefully manage one of their most important players.
Hakimi Expected to Join Camp on Monday
According to reports from Almountakhab, Hakimi has been allowed to remain with PSG for a few extra days following the club’s landmark European triumph, a milestone achievement that also marks a memorable chapter in the Moroccan star’s career.
The right-back is expected to arrive at Morocco’s training camp on Monday evening. Once he joins the squad, he will undergo a full medical examination and physical assessment before returning to training with his teammates.
Friendly Against Madagascar Set to Be Missed
Morocco’s coaching staff have reportedly decided not to include Hakimi in the upcoming friendly against Madagascar as they seek to manage his workload after a demanding season at club level.
The decision is aimed at allowing the defender additional recovery time while reducing the risk of fatigue ahead of the World Cup.
Focus on World Cup Readiness
The move underlines Morocco’s commitment to ensuring Hakimi reaches the tournament in peak condition, both physically and mentally.
The Atlas Lions head into the 2026 FIFA World Cup carrying high expectations after their recent achievements on the international stage. Morocco have been drawn in Group C alongside Brazil, Scotland and Haiti as they look to build on their growing reputation and deliver another memorable World Cup campaign.
