Morocco international goalkeeper Yassine Bounou will undergo a detailed MRI scan to determine the extent of the injury sustained at the just ended 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament, held in Morocco.

Bounou picked up a hamstring injury while in action for the Atlas Lions at the continental showpiece. Upon his return to Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia, the former Sevilla shot stopper visited the Mina Clinic at the club’s headquarters and is expected to undergo further scans.

As the result, the enterprising goalkeeper will not be in action on Thursday when Al Hilal takes on Al-Fayha in the matchday 16 of the Saudi Pro League.

Bounou will be hoping to recover on time to feature in subsequent games for the Saudi top-flight outfit. Following an outstanding display at the tournament, the enterprising shot stopper was adjudged the best goalkeeper in the continental showpiece.

Despite his exploits, Morocco were unable to secure the AFCON title on home turf after succumbing to a narrow defeat to Senegal.

Morocco hoped to end their 50-year AFCON drought but the Senegalese proved to be the stronger side, as they won the title for the second time in their history.
