Morocco first-choice goalkeeper, Yassine Bounou, is on the verge of committing his future to Saudi Arabian powerhouse Al Hilal after agreeing to a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2027.
The 32-year-old had been the subject of strong interest from Europe, with former club Sevilla reportedly keen on bringing him back to Andalusia as their top goalkeeping target during the summer transfer window.
However, Bounou’s decision to extend his stay in Riyadh effectively ends Sevilla’s pursuit and bolsters Al Hilal’s ambitions to remain a dominant force both in Saudi Arabia and on the continental stage.
The contract renewal comes after Bounou’s standout performances at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, where he and compatriot Achraf Hakimi were named in the tournament’s Best XI.
Bounou notably made 10 crucial saves against Manchester City and delivered another inspired performance in a narrow 2-1 loss to Fluminense.
He finished the tournament as one of the top three goalkeepers, with his decisive interventions proving vital to Al Hilal’s competitive run throughout the campaign.
Sources close to Al Hilal suggest Sevilla had hoped Bounou’s desire to return to Europe would be enough to lure him back to La Liga.
However, his new deal signals a commitment to Al Hilal’s project, where he is seen as a central figure in the club’s quest for sustained success.
Currently vacationing in Morocco following his Club World Cup heroics, Bounou appears determined to spend his prime years with a team matching his ambition.
His contract renewal also serves as a statement of intent from the Saudi Pro League, which continues to attract and retain top-tier international talent.
