Morocco international goalkeeper Yassine Bounou has garnered recognition during the current football season, securing a spot on The Guardian’s list of the 50 best players worldwide.

In the realm of goalkeepers, Bounou claimed the sixth position, with Ederson leading, followed by Ter Stegen, Falcone Becker, Thibaut Courtois, and Emiliano Martinez.

The Guardian’s annual list featured five players from the Saudi Roshan League, including Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo, Croatian Marcelo Brozovic of Al-Nasr, and Frenchman Karim Benzema of Al-Ittihad, alongside Bounou and Riyad Mahrez from Al-Ahly.

Erling Haaland topped the overall list, with Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham as the runner-up, Kylian Mbappé in third, Harry Kane in fourth, and Manchester City’s Rodri in fifth place.

Among the Saudi representatives, Cristiano Ronaldo secured the 27th spot, Karim Benzema claimed 38th place, Yassine Bounou ranked 58th, while Riyad Mahrez and Marcelo Brozovic occupied the 92nd and 94th positions, respectively, showcasing the diverse talent present in the Saudi Roshan Professional League.

Bounou was voted the best goalkeeper in Africa during the recent CAF Awards after his impressive performances for Morocco at the World Cup in Qatar, where the Atlas Lions reached semi-finals, becoming the only African side to ever achieve that.

Bounou was also instrumental for Sevilla in their run to win the UEFA Europa League.
