Khadija Remichi begs Moroccans after WAFCON setback

Morocco goalkeeper Khadija Remichi has delivered an emotional message to their fans following the Atlas Lionesses’ disappointing campaign at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

The North African powerhouse missed out on the ultimate, with Cameroon emerging as the eventual winners in a highly competitive tournament, held on Morocco.

However, Remichi has taken to social media to address the Moroccan fans over the team’s inability to win the title.

The goalkeeper admitted that she struggled to find the right words to describe her feelings after the competition, while apologising to supporters for failing to deliver the result they had hoped for.

Despite the disappointment, Remichi insisted that the players gave everything throughout the tournament and fought until the final moment.

She stressed that representing Morocco was a responsibility the players never took lightly, describing the national team shirt as much more than a piece of clothing.

According to Remichi, wearing the Moroccan jersey represented the country’s identity, belonging and the dreams of millions of supporters.

The goalkeeper also used her message to praise her teammates for their commitment and sacrifices throughout the competition.

She expressed her pride in every member of the squad, highlighting the collective effort that went into Morocco’s campaign despite the eventual disappointment.

Morocco finished fourth after suffering a 3-2 defeat to Algeria on penalties following a 1-1 draw in the third-place match at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat on Saturday evening.

The result meant the Atlas Lionesses missed out on a podium finish on home soil, adding to the disappointment of a campaign that had promised much.

However, Remichi believes the setback should not define the team’s future.

The goalkeeper ended her message with a note of determination, insisting that Morocco’s journey is far from over.

“This is not the end of the story, but a new chapter from which we will return stronger,” she said.

Her message reflects the mood within the Moroccan camp: disappointment over the missed opportunity, but also a determination to learn from the experience and come back stronger in future competitions.
