Morocco goalkeeper Hind El Hasnaoui undergoes successful surgery after injury blow
Moroccan women’s national team goalkeeper Hind El Hasnaoui has successfully undergone surgery after suffering a serious injury just days before the start of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
El Hasnaoui underwent surgery on her left leg on Wednesday at a private clinic in Rabat after sustaining the injury at training.
The unfortunate incident occurred as Morocco was finalizing preparations for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, a tournament in which the goalkeeper had been hoping to play a key role. However, the severity of the injury ultimately ruled her out of the competition before it even began.
For El Hasnaoui, the injury comes at a particularly difficult moment. Having worked hard to earn her place in the national setup, the goalkeeper was looking forward to showcasing her abilities on one of the biggest stages in African women’s football. Instead, she now faces a lengthy recovery period while watching the competition from the sidelines.
Medical staff are expected to closely monitor her progress before she embarks on a comprehensive rehabilitation programme designed to restore her strength, mobility and match fitness. The recovery process will be carefully managed to ensure that she can return to action safely and regain her best form.
The primary objective is to help El Hasnaoui make a full recovery and eventually return to competitive football, both for the Moroccan national team and her club side, FAR Rabat, where she remains one of the promising goalkeepers in the domestic game.
In the aftermath of the injury, the goalkeeper has reportedly been overwhelmed by messages of support from across the Moroccan football community.
Her teammates within the national team have rallied around her, offering encouragement and moral support as she begins the challenging road back to fitness. Members of the coaching and medical staff have also remained in close contact with the player throughout the process.
Officials of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation have equally shown their support, reassuring the goalkeeper that she remains an important part of Morocco’s football project despite the setback.
Beyond the national team camp, El Hasnaoui has received numerous messages from family members, friends and supporters who have expressed their sympathy and wished her a speedy recovery. Many fans have taken to social media to send words of encouragement, hoping to see the goalkeeper back between the posts as soon as possible.
The injury is undoubtedly a major disappointment for both the player and the Moroccan women’s national team, particularly at a time when expectations surrounding women’s football in the country continue to grow following recent successes on the continental and international stage.
Nevertheless, the successful surgery offers hope that El Hasnaoui will return stronger from the setback. For now, the focus remains firmly on her recovery, rehabilitation and eventual return to the game she loves.
As Morocco continue their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign, the Atlas Lionesses will undoubtedly carry with them the support of a teammate whose tournament dream was cut short, while El Hasnaoui begins the next phase of her journey with determination and optimism for the future.
