Morocco will face Egypt in the semi-finals of the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations 2026, while Algeria take on defending runners-up Angola.
The last two group-stage matches were played on Saturday, bringing the opening phase of the tournament to a close and confirming the line-up for the last four.
Morocco secured top spot in Group A after an impressive run of results. The three-time defending champions began by beating Algeria 4-0, before recording further emphatic victories over Zambia, 7-0, and Libya, 6-0.
Youssef Jouad and Raiss El-Fenni were Morocco’s leading scorers in the group, with four goals apiece. The results have put Hicham Dguig’s side on course to improve their record by becoming the first team to win the title four times in succession.
Their semi-final opponents, Egypt, finished second in Group B. The Pharaohs were beaten 4-2 by Angola at the Palais des sports du Complexe Prince Moulay Abdellah in Rabat, a result that left them behind the group winners.
The meeting with Egypt will bring back positive memories for Morocco. In the 2020 final, Dguig’s side defeated the Pharaohs 5-0. Four years earlier, Morocco had also won the final, although that match was much closer, ending 3-2 after Egypt had beaten them 3-2 in the group stage.
Algeria, meanwhile, have reached the semi-finals in their first appearance at the tournament. They will face Angola, who finished as runners-up in the previous edition.
The Fennecs booked their place in the final four on Friday with a 7-4 victory over Zambia. That followed an opening defeat by Morocco and a 2-2 draw with Libya.
A win against Angola would take Nordine Benamrouche’s players into the final, where they could meet Morocco again and have the opportunity to avenge their group-stage defeat.
The semi-finals will be played on 19 October, which falls on Monday. The third-place play-off and the final are scheduled for 21 October, Wednesday.
