The final assessment reports from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations remain under review by Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, more than two weeks after the Atlas Lions narrowly lost the continental title to Senegal.
Morocco were edged out 1-0 in the final, and sources indicate that the comprehensive reports now on Lekjaa’s desk contain detailed technical evaluations of the national team’s overall performance at the tournament.
The documents are said to cover the work of the technical, medical and administrative departments throughout the competition.
According to the same source, Lekjaa is using the reports to carefully identify both the strengths and shortcomings that emerged during the campaign before taking any decisive action.
Particular attention is being paid to the team’s performance and the position of head coach Walid Regragui, with the evaluation expected to clarify responsibilities linked to squad management and key selection decisions. The report is also understood to assess the choice to include certain players who were deemed not fully ready from both a technical and physical standpoint.
The medical department has also come under scrutiny, following criticism directed at national team doctor Christophe Boudot over the handling of player injuries.
The reports are expected to closely examine the medical situation, especially after Hamza Ikman was cleared to play in the final despite not being fully recovered, an appearance that reportedly resulted in a cruciate ligament tear.
Lekjaa now faces several possible paths before making an official decision. One option involves renewing confidence in Regragui through to the end of the 2026 World Cup while reinforcing his technical staff with experienced additions.
Another scenario could see targeted changes, particularly within the medical department. A third approach would focus on analysing the causes of the setback while maintaining overall stability by acknowledging the work of the existing technical and medical teams.
