Morocco FA President Fouzi Lekjaa appointed CAF 1st Vice President
CAF President Patrice Motsepe has appointed Fouzi Lekjaa to the position of first vice president, following a meeting of the confederation’s executive committee held in Ghana on Saturday.
The advancement represents another significant milestone for Lekjaa, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF).
He has gradually increased his influence within African football leadership over the past decade.
“The nomination of Fouzi Lekjaa as first vice president is part of his remarkable work accomplished over the years,” Motsepe stated during the April 26 meeting.
“This appointment also reflects team unity in Morocco, as well as his commitment to the Moroccan people and to His Majesty King Mohammed VI.”
Motsepe further expressed high expectations for Morocco’s hosting of the next Africa Cup of Nations, predicting the tournament “will be the most successful in the history of this competition.”
Lekjaa’s elevation to CAF’s second-highest role comes as Morocco intensifies preparations to host the 2025 AFCON.
It also follows his recent re-election to the FIFA Council, where he won 49 out of 52 votes during elections held in Cairo last month.
Since becoming FRMF president in 2014, Lekjaa has led a strategic campaign aimed at boosting Moroccan presence within football’s major governing institutions while investing heavily in domestic football infrastructure.
Prior to his new appointment, Lekjaa served as CAF’s second vice president and continues to lead the confederation’s finance committee.
The 54-year-old administrator also maintains a career in public service, acting as minister delegate for the budget in the Moroccan government under Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch since 2021.
His new role at CAF arrives at a time when Morocco is pursuing broader football ambitions, including the joint 2030 FIFA World Cup bid alongside Spain and Portugal.
