Morocco is through to the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after surviving a tense semi-final against Ghana that ended in a 4-2 penalty shootout win.
The match was filled with intensity and passion, with Ghana starting strong and setting the early pace. Their efforts paid off when they opened the scoring in the 26th minute, rewarding their dominant start.
But the hosts refused to back down. Morocco slowly found their rhythm and began to push back. Their persistence was rewarded in the 55th minute when Sakina Ouzraoui Diki fired home to bring the game level.
The Moroccans grew in confidence after the equaliser, but despite their attacking efforts, they couldn’t add another goal. Ghana also fought hard, creating several chances, but the breakthrough never came.
After 90 minutes and extra time, the score remained locked, forcing a shootout. Under pressure, Morocco kept their nerve and converted four penalties to Ghana’s two.
The result means Morocco will now face Nigeria in the tournament’s grand finale.
