Morocco defender Anass Salah-Eddine joins Panathinaikos on loan from Roma

Moroccan international Anass Salah-Eddine has completed a move to Greek giants Panathinaikos on a season-long loan from Italian club AS Roma.

Salah-Eddine arrives in Greece after a difficult period at Roma, where he struggled to establish himself in the plans of the technical staff.

With limited opportunities at the Italian club, Roma opted to find a new destination for the Moroccan defender, eventually agreeing to send him to Panathinaikos for the 2026/27 season.

The move provides Salah-Eddine with an opportunity to regain regular playing time and rebuild his confidence after a challenging spell in Italy.

The Moroccan spent last season on loan at PSV Eindhoven, where he played an important role as the Dutch club secured the Eredivisie title.

Following the end of his loan spell, Salah-Eddine returned to Roma hoping to fight for a place in the squad, but he was unable to convince the coaching staff that he should remain part of the team’s plans.

Panathinaikos have now offered the 24-year-old another opportunity to revive his career and establish himself as an important player.

The move will also see Salah-Eddine link up with fellow Moroccan internationals Azzedine Ounahi and Imran Louza, giving Panathinaikos a strong Moroccan contingent.

His arrival is expected to provide additional quality and depth to the squad as the Greek club competes on multiple fronts during the new season.

For Salah-Eddine, the immediate objective will be to regain his competitive rhythm, secure regular minutes and rediscover the form that helped him make an impression during his spell in the Netherlands.

His performances at Panathinaikos could also be important for his international ambitions as he looks to remain in contention for a place in the Moroccan national team.
