Morocco defender Anas Salah Eddine set for Roma return after loan spell

Moroccan international Anas Salah-Eddine is expected to return to AS Roma after PSV Eindhoven failed to reach an agreement to trigger his permanent transfer, following the expiry of an €8 million purchase option.

The Dutch club had been keen to retain the full-back after an encouraging loan spell in the Eredivisie, where his performances convinced PSV’s technical staff that he could become a long-term defensive asset.

However, negotiations between PSV and the player’s representatives reportedly stalled over financial terms, preventing a final agreement from being reached before the deadline. As a result, the purchase clause expired, ending the Dutch side’s priority option to sign him permanently.

Salah Eddine is now expected to return to Rome, where he will rejoin Roma’s pre-season preparations after completing his commitments with the Moroccan national team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His future will then be assessed in coordination with the club’s management.

The Moroccan defender spent the previous season on loan at PSV, where he gained valuable experience in European competition and showcased his versatility and defensive awareness. His progress prompted PSV to consider activating the buy option, but the collapse of talks has now reopened uncertainty over his long-term future.

Despite the setback, his performances in the Netherlands have not gone unnoticed, and further interest from other clubs is expected during the summer transfer window. PSV could also revisit negotiations if conditions change, but for now, the deal remains off.

At international level, Salah Eddine remains part of Morocco’s squad at the World Cup, where he recently featured as a substitute in a 1-1 draw. His involvement on the global stage is expected to further raise his profile as clubs continue to monitor his situation closely.

With his future still unresolved, the coming weeks could prove decisive for the 23-year-old, who now returns to Roma with renewed attention on his next career step.
