Morocco defender Achraf Dari set for Al Ahly exit as Wydad AC move gains momentum
Moroccan defender Achraf Dari is set to end his spell with Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the current summer transfer window, as talks intensify over a possible return to his former club Wydad Athletic Club.
As per reports, talks between Dari and the Egyptian giants over contract termination has advanced, a decision that would allow the centre-back to explore a new challenge after an underwhelming period with the Cairo-based club.
Wydad AC have emerged as the leading destination for the Morocco international, with negotiations between the two parties progressing as they seek to finalise terms for his return to the club where he made his name.
Dari is said to be keen on rejoining Wydad, while the Moroccan giants are also interested in bringing back one of their former defensive leaders as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season.
The 27-year-old defender began his professional career at Wydad and became a key figure for the club before earning a move abroad. His performances with the Casablanca side helped him gain recognition both domestically and internationally, eventually leading to opportunities outside Morocco.
After establishing himself as one of Africa’s promising central defenders, Dari moved to Europe before joining Al Ahly, where he was expected to play a significant role in the Red Castle’s defensive setup.
However, his time in Egypt has not gone according to expectations, with injuries and competition for places limiting his opportunities and preventing him from making the desired impact at the club.
A return to Wydad would represent a familiar environment for Dari, who remains highly regarded by supporters of the Moroccan club. His experience at both domestic and international level could provide valuable leadership to a Wydad side aiming to compete for major honours.
The coming days are expected to be decisive, with negotiations continuing between the player and Wydad officials. Should an agreement be reached and his departure from Al Ahly completed, Dari could begin the next chapter of his career back in Casablanca.
