Morocco considering Uganda for second November friendly
Morocco are in advanced discussions to face Uganda in their second international friendly during the November window, following their confirmed fixture against Mozambique on the 14th.
The Atlas Lions are expected to host Mozambique first, while the second match – likely to take place four days later on 18 November – could see them come up against Uganda, though other options are still being reviewed.
The Moroccan Football Federation is yet to confirm the host city for the encounter against Mozambique, but Tangier and Rabat have emerged as the leading candidates.
The fixture forms part of Morocco’s preparations ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations finals, where they will seek to build momentum before the continental showpiece.
Mozambique, who have also secured qualification for the AFCON, were initially set to play Kuwait and Gambia in Egypt before those plans were scrapped.
Instead, they will now travel to Morocco for their international engagements. During their stay, Chiquinho Condé’s side are also scheduled to face Chad on 18 November.
Sources suggest Uganda have become a serious contender for Morocco’s second friendly.
The Cranes, who have chosen Morocco as their base for the autumn internationals, are due to meet Chad on 14 November and could subsequently take on the Atlas Lions later that week.
Both teams have already qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations, making the fixture a fitting test ahead of the tournament.
Before finalising the friendly schedule, Morocco had explored several high-profile options.
A potential blockbuster match against Argentina was dismissed after financial negotiations stalled, with the South American champions reportedly demanding nearly €7 million plus accommodation costs in Rabat.
The federation also held talks with Cape Verde and considered facing Senegal in Tangier, but both options were eventually ruled out.
The upcoming matches in November will mark Morocco’s final tune-up before their AFCON campaign begins.
Head coach Walid Regragui is expected to use the window to assess squad depth, experiment with tactical variations, and give valuable minutes to fringe players seeking to secure a place in the final tournament squad.
