Morocco coach Walid Regragui admits pressure in AFCON 2025 title bid
Morocco coach Walid Regragui has admitted facing an immense pressure in the quest to secure the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title on home soil.
The 35th edition of the continental showpiece has been scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026, with the Atlas Lions set to take on Comoros in Group A opener at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Sunday evening.
The North Africa giants will compete in Group A alongside, Comoros, Mali and Zambia at the tournament.
Speaking ahead of the Comoros clash, Regragui admitted pressure, while promising to deliver the AFCON title to the Moroccans.
“If you asked any Moroccan coach, he would wish to be leading his national team in the Africa Cup of Nations on home soil. The pressure is immense, that’s a fact, but for me it’s my daily bread that I’m used to, and it doesn’t bother me.”
“I still stand by my promise that we will bring this cup title to Morocco, but that requires concerted efforts, humility, and respect for our opponents.” He said.
Morocco has been tipped as one of the strong contenders for the title, having exhibited high level performance in recent times, inclduign a fourth place finish at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
