Morocco women’s national team coach Jorge Vilda will unveil his final squad for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) during a press conference on Friday, 17 July.

The Moroccan Football Federation confirmed that the media briefing will take place at 11:00 local time at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, where Vilda will reveal the players selected to represent the Atlas Lionesses at the continental tournament.

Morocco will host the competition from 26 July to 16 August 2026, with the hosts aiming to challenge for a first Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title on home soil.

Hosts face regional rivals in Group A

Morocco have been drawn in Group A alongside Algeria, Senegal and Kenya.

The Atlas Lionesses will play their group-stage matches at the Moulay Hassan Stadium in Rabat as they look to progress to the knockout stages.

Defending champions Nigeria headline a competitive Group C, where they will face Zambia, Egypt and tournament debutants Malawi in Casablanca.

Group B features South Africa, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso and Tanzania, while Ghana, Cameroon, Mali and debutants Cape Verde make up Group D, with matches scheduled to be played in Fez.

World Cup qualification at stake

The top two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the quarter-finals.

Reaching the semi-finals will also secure direct qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

Teams eliminated in the quarter-finals will still have another opportunity to reach the global tournament by competing for the two African places in the intercontinental play-offs.

With the tournament now just days away, Friday’s squad announcement will offer the clearest indication yet of the players Vilda believes can lead Morocco to success in front of their home supporters.
