Morocco coach Jamal Sellami linked with Al-Fateh amid contract dispute
Moroccan coach Jamal Sellami’s potential move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Fateh has been complicated by a financial dispute involving the club’s outgoing coach Khaled Al-Atwi.
Al-Fateh have decided to part ways with Al-Atwi by mutual consent following a poor run of results in the Saudi Professional League, with Sellami emerging as the leading candidate to take charge.
However, the Moroccan coach’s appointment could depend on Al-Fateh reaching an agreement with Al-Atwi over his outstanding contractual dues.
Al-Fateh turn to Sellami after poor start
Al-Fateh have moved quickly to identify a replacement for Al-Atwi as they attempt to improve their league campaign.
The club currently sit 15th in the Saudi Professional League with three points from seven matches, having drawn three games and lost four.
That difficult start has prompted the management to seek a change in the technical staff, with Sellami reportedly their preferred option for the next stage.
Sellami is currently available after the Jordan Football Association dismissed him following Jordan’s elimination from the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.
Al-Atwi demands full contractual rights
The main obstacle to Sellami’s arrival is the financial situation surrounding Al-Atwi’s departure.
The outgoing coach is demanding payment of his full financial rights under his contract and has reportedly refused to make concessions if Al-Fateh proceed with the termination.
The situation has left the Saudi club needing to settle the outstanding contractual matters with Al-Atwi before it can complete its plans for a new coach.
Earlier reports had already indicated that Al-Fateh were considering ending their relationship with Al-Atwi because of the team’s declining results.
Sellami appointment depends on agreement
Al-Fateh now face negotiations with Al-Atwi as they attempt to clear the way for Sellami to take charge.
The club’s management wants to make a technical change in an effort to improve its position in the league, but resolving the financial dispute with the outgoing coach remains a key condition before the process can move forward.
Sellami’s potential appointment will therefore depend largely on whether Al-Fateh can reach an agreement with Al-Atwi and complete the termination of his contract.
