Morocco has been selected as the host country for the headquarters of the Association of African Clubs (ACA), a newly formed entity under the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The decision marks another triumph for Morocco, solidifying its status as a leading hub for football on the continent.

Initially slated to be based in Kenya, the ACA’s headquarters will now be situated in the Shereef kingdom, following a successful bid led by the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and its president, Fouzi Lekjaa.

According to reports from journalist Osasu Obayiuwana, Morocco’s proposal included not only offering to house the institution but also to provide financial support for its operations.

This compelling offer likely played a decisive role in swaying the decision in Morocco’s favor, overshadowing rival bids, including one from Ivory Coast.

Despite Ivory Coast’s recent resurgence in African football, notably with their successful hosting of the AFCON 2023 tournament, they were unable to match Morocco’s comprehensive bid.

Details regarding the specific city where the ACA headquarters will be located have not yet been disclosed.

However, it has been revealed that a virtual secretariat will be established temporarily, with Jessica Motaung, the marketing director of Kaizer Chiefs and ACA vice-president, leading the process of setting up and interviewing candidates for the role of acting secretary.

The ACA, comprising presidents and executives from various African clubs, aims to safeguard and promote the interests of football clubs across the continent.

Its formation represents a significant step forward in the governance and development of African football, providing a platform for clubs to voice their concerns and shape the future of the sport in Africa.
