Ounahi pays visit to Azzedine Ounahi after surgery

Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi has shown his support for compatriot Azzedine Ounahi after visiting the midfielder following his successful surgery to repair a serious tendon injury.

Ounahi, who plays for Greek giants Panathinaikos, underwent surgery on Thursday after suffering a complete tear of the biceps femoris tendon in his right leg, an injury that is expected to keep him out of action for between four and five months.

According to the cub, the Moroccan midfielder would begin a specialized rehabilitation programme on Friday as he starts the recovery process.

Hakimi, who plays for French champions Paris Saint-Germain, was the first visitor to see Ounahi following the procedure. The Greek club shared a photograph of the two Moroccan internationals together at the medical facility, highlighting the support surrounding the injured midfielder.

The operation was carried out by a medical team comprising Panathinaikos club doctor Haris Lalos, orthopaedic surgeon Nicolas Lefevre and Christophe Baudot, who serves as the Moroccan national team doctor and a medical consultant for PSG.

Ounahi sustained the injury during Panathinaikos’ Greek league clash against Asteras Tripolis on October 18. The midfielder was forced to leave the pitch in the 19th minute after suffering the problem and was subsequently carried off on a stretcher.

The incident initially raised concerns about the seriousness of the injury, with further medical examinations confirming a complete tear that required surgical intervention.

His absence is expected to be a major setback for Panathinaikos, who will now have to cope without the Moroccan playmaker for a significant portion of the campaign.

The 25-year-old is also facing a lengthy road to recovery, with Greek media reports estimating that his rehabilitation could take up to five months. His eventual return will depend on his progress and response to the treatment programme.

Meanwhile, Hakimi’s visit provides a show of solidarity from one of Morocco’s leading football figures as Ounahi begins the difficult process of regaining full fitness and returning to action.
