Morocco cancel Ghana friendly as Black Stars suffer another setback

Morocco have cancelled their planned international friendly against Ghana, dealing another setback to the Black Stars following their difficult start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The two sides were scheduled to meet on 4 October in Tangier, but the fixture has now been called off by the Moroccan Football Federation.

No official reason has been given for the cancellation.

The match was expected to give Ghana an opportunity to regroup after a disappointing start to their Group C qualifying campaign.

The Black Stars opened their campaign with a 2-0 defeat by Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké before suffering a 4-2 loss to The Gambia in Accra.

Ghana had taken a 2-0 lead against The Gambia but conceded four goals to suffer their second successive defeat, leaving them without a point from their opening two matches.

The cancellation of the Morocco friendly follows the earlier scrapping of Ghana’s planned meeting with Tanzania after the two football associations failed to reach a final agreement.

The developments leave head coach Carlos Queiroz needing to find alternative opposition to give his squad competitive preparation ahead of their next AFCON qualifiers.

Ghana are due to return to competitive action in October when they face Somalia in a double-header at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Black Stars will be hoping to revive their qualification campaign and secure a place at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.

Ghana missed the 2025 AFCON in Morocco after failing to qualify for the tournament for the first time in more than two decades.
