Morocco becomes second African nation to secure FIFA U20 World Cup title

Morocco have etched their name into the history books of world football, becoming the second African nation to annex the FIFA U20 World Cup title.

The young Atlas overcame six-time champions, Argentina in a high-stake final of the 2025 U20 World Cup tournament, held in Chile on Sunday.

Morocco showcased determination and resilience, inflicting a 2-0 victory over the South American giants to annex their maiden World Cup title.

Famalicao forward Yassir Zabiri emerged as the hero in the crucial final, opening the scoring after just 12th minutes into the match with a brilliantly taken free-kick that beat Argentine goalkeeper Santino Barbi.

The North African side doubled their advantage in the 28th minute when captain Othmane Maamma provided a perfect assist for Zabiri, who finished clinically from close range.

And with no additional goal in the match, Morocco cruised to victory to secure the prestigious World Cup title for the first time in their history.

Despite Argentina dominating possession, Morocco remained tactically organized throughout the game, ensuring they secure the title.

The victory marks a landmark achievement for Morocco, showcasing the strength of their youth development and signaling a bright future for the national team on the global stage.

Following in the footsteps of Ghana, Morocco becomes the second African nation to secure the FIFA U20 World Cup title.

The Black Satellites became the first African side to lift the trophy back in 2009, a tournament held in Egypt, with Morocco joining Ghana as the only two nations from the African continent to win the World Cup title.
