Morocco are overwhelming favorite to win AFCON 2025, says ex-CAF boss Ahmad Ahmad

Former CAF president Ahmad Ahmad has tipped Morocco as the clear favourite to claim the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.

The 35th edition of the tournament kicks off on Sunday, with hosts Morocco facing Comoros at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in the opening match.

In an interview ahead of the tournament, Ahmad highlighted the Atlas Lions as frontrunners for the coveted trophy.

“Morocco is clearly the overwhelming favorite,” Ahmad told Le Site info Sport.

“But you always have to take into account the surprises inherent in this competition and, of course, the magic of football.

“Some teams can create a surprise and leave a good impression, such as Senegal, Algeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, as well as Cameroon and Nigeria,” he added.

Morocco will take on Mali in their second group game before wrapping up their group games against Zambia.
