Morocco announce 29-man squad for Ghana friendly and AFCON qualifiers
Morocco head coach Mohamed Ouahbi has named a 29-man squad for the Atlas Lions’ upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Gabon and Lesotho, as well as their international friendly against Ghana.
Ouahbi announced the squad on Thursday, September 17, 2026, during a press conference at the Mohammed VI Football Complex ahead of the training camp, which begins next Monday.
Morocco will open their AFCON qualifying campaign against Gabon on September 25 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat before facing Lesotho four days later at the Toyota Stadium in Bloemfontein, South Africa.
The Atlas Lions will then host Ghana in a friendly at the Grand Stade de Tanger on October 4, with the match scheduled for 7pm.
The game against the Black Stars will form part of Morocco’s preparations for their upcoming fixtures, while the matches against Gabon and Lesotho will count towards qualification for the 2027 AFCON.
Ouahbi has handed first senior call-ups to Alaa Bellaarouch and 17-year-old Abdellah Ouazane.
Zabiri has also been included following an impressive start to the season.
However, Morocco will be without several notable players, including El Hilali, Talbi, Akhomach, Ben Seghir, Adli, Richardson, Sbaï, El Karouani, Chibi, Harit and Bentayg.
El Kaabi, Riad, Belammari, En-Nesyri and Igamane are also unavailable through injury.

The Ghana friendly will be played after Morocco’s two AFCON qualifiers and will give Ouahbi an opportunity to assess his squad against the Black Stars.
