The preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup are gathering momentum as Morocco and Spain reaffirm their commitment to co-hosting the tournament alongside Portugal.
On Tuesday, the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, welcomed Rafael Louzán, the newly elected President of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, in Rabat for a high-level meeting focused on strengthening collaboration between the host nations.
Strategic Partnership for a Successful Tournament
During their discussions, Lekjaa extended his congratulations to Louzán on his appointment and emphasised the urgency of establishing joint committees between Morocco, Spain, and Portugal.
These committees will play a crucial role in ensuring seamless preparations for the centenary edition of the World Cup, which will mark a historic first as a tournament spanning both Africa and Europe.
The FRMF president also underscored the deep historical and cultural ties between Morocco and Spain, highlighting the significance of fostering cooperation in all football-related sectors to ensure the tournament’s success.
Spanish Delegation Acknowledges Morocco’s Progress
Accompanied by a delegation from Spain, Louzán expressed admiration for Morocco’s advancements in sports infrastructure.
The rapid development of world-class facilities has positioned Morocco among Africa’s leading nations in terms of sporting investments, reinforcing its status as a key partner in delivering a successful World Cup.
The discussions resulted in an agreement to establish joint commissions that will oversee logistical and organisational aspects of the tournament.
These efforts aim to ensure the smooth execution of the first-ever World Cup jointly hosted by African and European nations.
Expanding Football Cooperation Beyond the World Cup
Beyond tournament preparations, the meeting also explored opportunities to strengthen football exchanges between Moroccan and Spanish clubs.
This collaboration could extend to player development, youth training programmes, and closer ties between clubs such as Atlético Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Real Madrid, which already have links with Moroccan football.
With this reinforced partnership between Morocco and Spain, the 2030 World Cup is taking shape as a landmark event in football history.
The next step in the preparation process will be a tripartite meeting involving Morocco, Spain, and Portugal to formalise the latest developments and further consolidate their joint hosting plans.
