Morocco and DR Congo set for crucial group stage clash in Women’s AFCON

Maroc Feminin 2

Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo will face off on Wednesday evening in a pivotal Group A encounter at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The match, scheduled for 8 p.m. local time (GMT+1), will be held at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat.

Viewers in the DRC can follow the action live on RTNC, SuperSport, and Canal+, while fans in Morocco will be able to tune in via Arryadia and beIN Sports.

The match will also be broadcast in France on beIN Sports, with kick-off at 9 p.m. local time.

After a crushing 4-0 defeat against Senegal in their opening fixture, the DRC enter the match under pressure.

Sitting at the bottom of Group A with zero points and a negative goal difference, the Leopards must avoid another loss if they hope to keep their qualification hopes alive.

A second consecutive defeat would severely complicate their path to the knockout stage, leaving them dependent on results from other groups to potentially qualify as one of the best third-placed teams.

Morocco, on the other hand, are looking to bounce back from a frustrating 2-2 draw with Zambia.

The Atlas Lionesses were rescued by their captain, Ghizlane Chebbak, whose performance ensured they avoided an opening-day defeat.

A win against the DRC would not only restore confidence but also place the hosts in a strong position to reach the quarter-finals.

Historically, Morocco have enjoyed the upper hand in recent meetings between the two sides.

The North Africans claimed back-to-back victories over the DRC in friendly matches played in May and June 2024, winning 2-1 and 3-2.

That recent form gives them a slight psychological edge, but head coach Reynald Pedros is unlikely to allow complacency to creep in, especially in a tournament setting.

For the DRC, the challenge will be both mental and tactical.

Rebounding from a heavy opening loss requires discipline and belief, particularly against a Moroccan side backed by a passionate home crowd.

Meanwhile, the Lionesses will be eager to impose their attacking style early on, hoping to avoid the same defensive lapses that cost them against Zambia.

As both teams take to the pitch on Wednesday night, the stakes could not be higher.

For Morocco, a step closer to qualification; for the DRC, a fight to stay alive in the tournament.
