Morocco and Al Ahly defender Youssef Belamri undergoes successful surgery in Germany

Moroccan defender Youssef Belamri has undergone successful surgery in Germany after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury to his right knee.

Belamri, who plays for Egyptian giants Al Ahly, underwent arthroscopic surgery to reconstruct the damaged ACL under the supervision of renowned German specialist Christian Prall at a hospital in Munich.

The operation was completed successfully, with Al Ahly’s medical team now turning their attention to the defender’s rehabilitation and eventual return to action.

The enterprising Moroccan was accompanied to Germany by Al Ahly’s vice president of medical services, Alaa Mamoun, who travelled with the player and monitored his condition throughout the surgical process.

Belamri is expected to leave the hospital within the next 48 hours before returning to Morocco, where he will begin the first stage of his rehabilitation programme.

The defender sustained the serious knee injury during Al Ahly’s pre-season training camp in Spain, dealing a major blow to his preparations for the new campaign.

An ACL injury typically requires a lengthy rehabilitation period, meaning Belamri is expected to spend several months recovering before he can return to competitive football.

Al Ahly will continue to closely monitor his progress in coordination with the medical team overseeing his rehabilitation, with the priority being to ensure that he makes a full and safe recovery before returning to action.

The club will also manage his rehabilitation carefully in the coming months as the Moroccan begins the long road back to full fitness.
