Fouzi Lekjaa, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, has set an audacious target for the national team—to become the first African nation to clinch the prestigious FIFA World Cup.

The inspiration behind this lofty ambition stems from Morocco’s impressive performance in the semi-final during the 2022 Qatar World Cup, falling just short of reaching a historic final for the African continent.

Expressing the Federation’s aspirations, Lekjaa articulates a vision that extends to the upcoming tournaments, with an eye on the 2026 or 2030 World Cup, where Morocco is set to co-host with Spain and Portugal.

Lekjaa believes that achieving victory in these tournaments or witnessing the triumph of an intermediate selection is within the realm of possibility.

“Our ambition is to see a national team win a World Cup,” declares Lekjaa, underscoring the determination and optimism that permeates Moroccan football.

The opportunity to host the 2030 World Cup, in collaboration with Spain and Portugal, is viewed as both an honor and a responsibility by Lekjaa.

He sees it as a crucial element aligned with the royal project aimed at elevating national football.

In preparation for this grand event, Morocco plans to enhance its sporting infrastructure to world-class standards. Despite already boasting the best facilities in Africa, Lekjaa envisions a major transformation, promising that sports facilities will transition from continental excellence to global excellence in the coming seasons.

Lekjaa takes pride in the achievements of national football thus far, considering them as a stepping stone for future triumphs and accolades.

As the Federation sets its sights on the grand stage of the World Cup, Moroccan football enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the unfolding journey toward the realization of this ambitious goal.
