Morocco’s Zakaria Labyad speaks out after cruciate ligament injury

Moroccan forward Zakaria Labyad has confirmed that his season is over after suffering a serious cruciate ligament injury while representing Corinthians, with the experienced attacker now preparing for a lengthy rehabilitation.

The 33-year-old addressed supporters through a message on Instagram following the injury, which was sustained during a Corinthians match last week.

The setback marks a significant interruption to his campaign and will require an extended recovery period before he can return to competitive football.

Labyad acknowledged the emotional impact of the injury but made it clear that his focus has already shifted towards his recovery.

“These last few days have been very difficult for me. My season is over, but my journey continues,” said the former PSV, Ajax and FC Utrecht forward.

The injury was previously confirmed by Corinthians and represents a major blow for both the player and the Brazilian club.

Having only recently arrived, Labyad had been looking to make a strong contribution, but the knee injury has brought his season to an abrupt end.

Despite the disappointment, the Moroccan international expressed his determination to overcome the setback and return to action in the future.

Among those to react was Netherlands international Memphis Depay, who currently shares the dressing room with Labyad at Corinthians.

Depay expressed confidence that the experienced attacker would successfully overcome the challenge ahead.

“Since your arrival, you have proven that you are a worthy, determined and very talented person. I have known you for a long time and I know that you will come back stronger. I love you.”

Morocco international Hakim Ziyech also showed his support by commenting on Labyad’s post with three heart emojis.

The messages highlighted the respect Labyad has earned throughout his career, having represented several prominent European clubs before embarking on his latest challenge in Brazil.

His experience at PSV, Ajax and FC Utrecht established him as a familiar figure in Dutch football before his move to Corinthians.

For now, however, the focus turns entirely to recovery. The serious cruciate ligament injury means the Moroccan forward faces several months away from competitive action, ending his current season prematurely.

Even so, Labyad’s public message reflected a player determined to approach the rehabilitation process with the same commitment that has defined his career.
