Oussama Lamlioui ended the 2024 African Nations Championship with both a winner’s medal and the top scorer award, capping a dream tournament for the Moroccan striker.
The 29-year-old forward netted twice in the final, striking in the 44th and 80th minutes to help Morocco defeat Madagascar 3-2 in a dramatic clash.
His brace not only secured Morocco’s third CHAN crown but also lifted him above his rivals in the scoring charts, sealing the Puma Top Scorer award with six goals. He finished ahead of South Africa’s Thabiso Kutumela, Uganda’s Allan Okello and Algeria’s Soufiane Bayazid, who each scored three.
Lamlioui’s sharp finishing had been a constant feature throughout the tournament. He scored against Zambia, the DR Congo and hosts Tanzania in the group stage, before showing nerves of steel from the spot in the semi-final shootout against Senegal.
Beyond the goals, Lamlioui, who represents RS Berkane at club level, gave Morocco confidence in crucial moments.
