Hakim Ziyech Linked With Potential Ajax Return

Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech is reportedly interested in returning to Ajax, the club where he enjoyed some of the most successful years of his career before securing a high-profile move to the English Premier League.

The possibility of a reunion with the Amsterdam club has emerged following comments from Maarten Vledder, widely known as Kokkie from the well-known Amsterdam football duo Kale & Kokkie.

Vledder revealed that he had recently been in direct contact with the former Chelsea winger and discussed his current situation.

“I often receive private messages from people asking me how Ziyech is doing. I was in contact with him last week ,” he explains.

According to Vledder, the Moroccan attacker is enjoying his football and continues to perform well.

“He plays in Morocco and is having a good season. I asked him how long his contract lasts. In principle, he has one year left.”

The discussion also touched on the possibility of a return to Ajax, where Ziyech established himself as one of the club’s most influential players during his time in the Netherlands.

“He had a clause in his contract allowing him to leave if an interesting club came along and he wanted to. Is Ajax an option for him? He would be interested ,” explains Vledder.

While Ziyech’s willingness appears clear, Vledder acknowledged that any potential move would also depend on whether Ajax sees a role for the experienced winger within its squad.

“I don’t know if Ajax would want that. Having a kind of mentor within the squad would be beneficial, I think, especially for young Moroccan players like Bounida and Ouazane.”

The 33-year-old Moroccan star represented Ajax between mid-2016 and February 2020, becoming a key figure in the club’s domestic and European campaigns. His performances eventually earned him a transfer to Chelsea in a deal worth around 40 million euros.

Following his spell in England, Ziyech joined Galatasaray in August 2023 before later spending a brief period with Al-Duhail. Since October 2025, the Moroccan winger has been playing for Wydad AC in Casablanca.

With one year reportedly remaining on his current contract and a clause that could facilitate a departure under the right circumstances, speculation surrounding Ziyech’s future may continue to grow.

For now, the prospect of a return to Ajax appears to be a possibility that the Moroccan international would welcome should the Dutch club decide to pursue it.
