Moroccan referees set to shine at UNAF U-17 AFCON qualifiers in Libya
The organizing committee for the North African Football Union (UNAF) U-17 qualifiers for the 2026 Africa Cup of Nations has unveiled the list of match officials for the highly anticipated regional tournament, which will take place in Benghazi, Libya, from March 24 to April 5.
Morocco will be proudly represented on the officiating team, with Hicham Temsamani appointed as the main referee, assisted by fellow Moroccan referees Zakaria Bachtaoui and Abdel Samad Abertoun. Their inclusion highlights the growing confidence in Moroccan referees at the continental level, reflecting their consistent performances in previous competitions organized by both UNAF and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
This tournament offers a valuable platform for Moroccan referees to gain additional experience in a competitive environment featuring some of North Africa’s top young talent. It also serves as an opportunity to demonstrate their technical skills, decision-making, and ability to manage high-pressure matches.
The UNAF U-17 qualifiers will feature the national teams of Morocco, Libya, Egypt, and Tunisia, promising intense competition as these nations vie for a place in the 2026 AFCON finals. With the Moroccan refereeing contingent now confirmed, expectations are high for strong and fair officiating that upholds the integrity of the tournament.
For Moroccan referees like Temsamani, Bachtaoui, and Abertoun, participation in this prestigious regional event not only strengthens their professional credentials but also underscores Morocco’s growing influence and presence in African football officiating circles.
