Morocco’s General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has firmly denied claims circulating on Senegalese websites and social accounts that a Senegalese citizen was stabbed to death in Morocco after the AFCON 2025 final.
The authority said its services had carefully analysed all the digital content and launched in-depth checks.
According to the DGSN, no incident matching the description in those posts, a deliberate killing or fatal knife attack on a Senegalese national after the final, has been recorded anywhere in the country. Instead, only one case is under investigation: the discovery of the body of an unidentified Sub-Saharan African man in the city of Salé.
Police reported that the body smelled strongly of alcohol and showed no visible signs of violence or resistance, apart from minor bite marks attributed to stray dogs found near the scene. A judicial inquiry has been opened under the supervision of the public prosecutor to establish the man’s identity and the exact circumstances of his death.
Fingerprints taken from the deceased did not match any profiles in the National Police Scientific and Technical Laboratory database, prompting coordination with Interpol and Senegalese authorities for further verification. Investigators also compared the body with identity documents shared online by Senegalese accounts and found strong similarities with a Senegalese citizen holding a Moroccan residence permit.
However, visits to the address listed on his papers showed he no longer lives there, meaning additional technical and field investigations are needed to confirm the match.
