Moroccan outfit Ittihad Touarga appoint Italian-Swiss coach Guillermo Arena on three-year deal
Ittihad Touarga FC have appointed of Italian-Swiss coach Guillermo Arena as the club’s new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 football season.
Guillermo Arena will pen a three-year contract that will see him take charge of the team’s technical affairs as they begin preparations for the new campaign.
Arena was identified as the preferred choice to lead Ittihad Touarga’s sporting project, with the club’s hierarchy convinced that his experience, tactical approach and familiarity with Moroccan football make him the right person to guide the team into a new phase.
The Italian-Swiss tactician returns to the Moroccan professional league after a previous spell with Maghreb Fez, where he took charge during the summer of 2024.
During his time at MAS Fez, Arena helped the club remain competitive, guiding the team to seventh place in the first half of the Botola Pro season with 22 points. However, following a decline in results, both parties agreed to part ways amicably in December 2024.
Despite the short duration of his previous stint, Arena’s knowledge of the Moroccan football environment and his ability to work within the demands of the local game have been viewed positively by Ittihad Touarga’s leadership.
The club believes his return to the league will provide the technical stability required to achieve better results and build a competitive squad capable of progressing in the coming seasons.
With a three-year mandate ahead of him, Arena will be tasked with developing a clear football identity, improving team performances and helping Ittihad Touarga compete more effectively in domestic competitions.
The appointment forms part of the club’s broader ambition to establish a stronger foundation and achieve sustainable growth, with the management placing its confidence in Arena’s experience and understanding of Moroccan football.
Arena is expected to begin preparations with the squad ahead of the 2026/27 campaign as Ittihad Touarga look to enter the new season with renewed ambition and direction.
