Moroccan outfit AS FAR appoint Portuguese tactician Pedro Gonçalves as new head coach
Moroccan giants AS FAR have officially appointed Portuguese tactician Pedro Gonçalves as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The former Angola manager returns to club football for the first time since his departure from Tanzanian powerhouse Young Africans (Yanga SC), taking over one of Morocco’s most successful clubs.
Gonçalves signed a one-and-a-half-year contract and is expected to lead the club in the upcoming Botola Pro campaign and continental competitions.
The appointment marks a fresh chapter for the experienced Portuguese coach, who built a strong reputation during his spell with Angola, guiding the Palancas Negras to impressive performances on the international stage with his organised and attacking brand of football.
Having previously managed Yanga SC, Gonçalves is no stranger to African club football and now faces the challenge of restoring AS FAR to the summit of Moroccan football while also competing strongly on the continental stage.
The Rabat-based club will be hoping the Portuguese tactician’s experience and tactical expertise can help them mount a serious challenge for the Botola Pro title and make a significant impact in the CAF Champions League next season.
Gonçalves is expected to begin work immediately, with preparations for the new campaign set to get underway in the coming weeks as he assesses his squad and implements his football philosophy.
His arrival signals AS FAR’s ambition to compete for major honours next season, with the club placing its faith in the Portuguese coach to usher in a successful new era.
