The Moroccan national football team is set to receive a financial reward of $800,000 for its participation in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and reaching the quarterfinals stage.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) allocated the sum of $800,000 to teams that advanced to the quarterfinals.
Morocco, despite its elimination in this round by South Africa on Tuesday with a 2-0 defeat, will be entitled to this financial recognition.
The winner of the AFCON, Ivory Coast, is slated to receive a substantial monetary prize amounting to $7 million.
The runner-up will be awarded $4 million.
Furthermore, the two teams reaching the semi-finals will each secure $2.5 million, while those qualifying for the quarterfinals will be granted $1.3 million.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe, a South African national, previously stated that this tournament witnessed a 40% increase in prize amounts.
He emphasized that these incentives aim to enhance the performance of the competition and will benefit all participating teams, assisting their football associations.
It is worth noting that the AFCON quarterfinals will feature several intense matchups.
South Africa, the latest team to secure a spot in this stage, will face Cape Verde. Additionally, Nigeria will compete against Angola, Mali will meet tournament host Ivory Coast, and Congo will play against Guinea.
