Moroccan international Azzedine Ounahi has offered a positive update on his recovery, providing encouraging news for national team coach Walid Regragui ahead of the March international window, where the Atlas Lions will play two friendly matches.
The midfielder is edging closer to a return after the injury he sustained while on international duty with Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Spanish newspaper AS reported that the current week will be decisive in assessing whether Ounahi is fit enough to feature in the upcoming fixture against Barcelona.
While the Moroccan star is unlikely to be ready to start following his extended spell on the sidelines, there is a strong possibility he could be included in Girona’s matchday squad.
According to the same report, Ounahi’s involvement hinges on his ability to rejoin full group training in the coming days.
The club’s medical staff are said to be proceeding cautiously, with no intention of rushing his comeback if there is any risk of aggravating the injury.
AS added that should Ounahi fall short of full fitness in time for the Barcelona encounter, his return is expected to be delayed until Girona’s next match on February 23, offering both club and country renewed optimism ahead of the decisive stages of the season.
