Azzedine Ounahi is nearing a move away from Olympique de Marseille, with Girona FC emerging as the likely destination for the Moroccan international.

Sources close to the negotiations have confirmed that the 25-year-old midfielder has reached a personal agreement with the Catalan club, who are now awaiting a final response from Marseille to conclude the deal.

Girona, fresh off a stunning campaign in La Liga that secured them a historic Champions League qualification, have tabled an official bid for Ounahi.

The offer marks a key step in their ambitious recruitment drive as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of a demanding season both domestically and in Europe.

Ounahi, known for his intelligent playmaking, agility in midfield, and ability to unlock tight defences, has drawn attention from several European clubs this summer. Italian sides Fiorentina and Lazio, as well as La Liga outfit Real Betis, had all expressed interest in acquiring his services.

However, the allure of Champions League football and a well-defined sporting project at Girona are believed to have tipped the scales in the Spanish side’s favour.

The Moroccan midfielder, who rose to global prominence during the 2022 World Cup with a standout performance for Morocco, has been a valuable but somewhat underutilised figure at Marseille.

Since joining OM from Angers, his progress has been disrupted by injuries and inconsistent playing time, prompting a search for new opportunities that would allow him to regain form and confidence.

Girona’s proposal comes at a pivotal moment for both player and club. For Ounahi, the move represents a chance to reinvigorate his career in a system that promises regular minutes and European exposure.

For Girona, his arrival would be seen as a coup—an injection of creativity and technical quality into a midfield preparing to face the elite of European football for the first time.

While personal terms have already been agreed, Marseille has yet to formally accept Girona’s offer. The French club, aware of the midfielder’s market value and potential, is still assessing its options, though optimism remains high in the Girona camp that a deal can be finalised swiftly.

Negotiations are ongoing, with all parties keen to reach an agreement before the end of the transfer window. Should the move materialise, Ounahi would join a Girona squad buoyed by recent success and eager to make a mark on the continental stage.

As the transfer saga develops, Azzedine Ounahi’s potential switch to Girona stands out as one of the more significant midfield moves of the summer—one that could reshape the ambitions of a rising Spanish club and offer a new platform for a player looking to fulfil his considerable promise.
