Moroccan attacking midfielder Ayoub Hilali has taken a significant step in his young career after officially joining FC Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy, further highlighting the growing presence of Moroccan talent within Europe’s elite development systems.
The highly-rated youngster arrives from CF Badalona and is set to become part of Barcelona’s Under-15 setup next season.
The move places him within one of the most respected youth academies in world football, an environment that has played a crucial role in shaping generations of top-level players.
According to sources close to the deal, Hilali has signed a three-year training contract with the Catalan club.
The agreement reflects Barcelona’s confidence in the young midfielder’s potential and offers him the opportunity to continue his football education at a club renowned for its demanding standards and commitment to youth development.
The move represents an important milestone for the Moroccan prospect, who will now continue his progression in a system recognised globally for producing technically gifted and intelligent footballers.
La Masia’s reputation extends far beyond Spain, having developed some of football’s most celebrated names, including Lionel Messi, Andrés Iniesta, Xavi Hernández and Sergio Busquets.
For a player of Hilali’s age, joining such an institution provides access to a footballing culture built around technical excellence, tactical understanding and long-term development.
Sports journalist Moncef Aït Srir believes the transfer is part of a broader trend involving Moroccan players earning opportunities at leading European academies.
“Ayoub Hilali’s transfer to FC Barcelona and La Masia is part of a trend already observed in recent years. Moroccan players are increasingly present in major European training centers, where they distinguish themselves through their talent and game intelligence. La Masia, in particular, appreciates this type of technical and creative profile.”
He also sees the move as evidence of Morocco’s growing reputation for producing high-level talent capable of competing in elite football environments.
“The presence of Moroccans in such prestigious academies is no longer a coincidence. It confirms that Morocco has become a true breeding ground for talent capable of adapting to the demands of the highest European level.”
At just 15 years old, Hilali is still at the beginning of his football journey. However, his arrival at Barcelona’s academy offers him an opportunity to continue his development in one of the sport’s most respected youth structures as he seeks to fulfil his potential in the years ahead.
