Moroccan giants Raja Athletic express firm interest in Kaizer Chiefs star Glody Lilepo
South African giants Kaizer Chiefs is at risk of losing their influential winger Glody Lilepo ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 27-year-old DR Congo attacker, who only recently joined the South African side from French outfit Valenciennes FC, has quickly established himself as a key figure in the Amakhosi frontline. His blend of physical presence, direct running, and eye for goal has made him one of the standout performers in what has been a demanding campaign for Kaizer Chiefs.
Lilepo’s impact has not gone unnoticed beyond South Africa, with Raja Casablanca head coach Fadlu Davids said to have personally requested for the acquisition of the DR Congo star.
Davids, who is known for his tactical emphasis on dynamic wide attackers and his familiarity with Southern African football talent, reportedly sees Lilepo as a perfect fit for Raja’s long-term ambitions. His interest is also said to be influenced by his deep understanding of players from the region, which could give Raja an edge if negotiations begin.
Since arriving in Johannesburg, Lilepo has already scored five goals for Kaizer Chiefs and has consistently been involved in crucial attacking phases. Whether drifting in from the right flank or stretching defences with his pace and strength, he has become one of the few reliable attacking outlets in the squad.
For a Kaizer Chiefs side still searching for sustained consistency, his presence has offered both cutting edge and unpredictability—qualities that are often difficult to replace in mid-season rebuilding projects.
Despite his club form, Lilepo’s recent omission from DR Congo squad for the 2026 World Cup has raised eyebrows.
His situation with the national team is reportedly complicated by a fallout with DR Congo head coach Sébastien Desabre dating back to 2023.
That strained relationship has continued to affect his international career, limiting his exposure on the global stage despite his club performances.
For Kaizer Chiefs, the growing interest from North Africa presents a delicate dilemma. Lilepo has quickly become one of their most important attacking players, and losing him so soon after his arrival could disrupt their long-term squad planning.
However, interest from a continental heavyweight like Raja Casablanca is significant and could test Chiefs’ resolve, especially if a strong financial offer is tabled.
With the next transfer window approaching, all eyes will be on whether Chiefs can resist external pressure or if Lilepo’s impressive form will once again open the door to another move abroad.
