The Royal Moroccan Football Federation has swiftly denied reports regarding the resignation of head coach Walid Regragui.
Earlier reports suggested that Regragui, who guided the Atlas Lions to the semifinal of the 2022 World Cup and AFCON 2025 final has opted not to continue as the head coach of the national team.
But the Federation has categorically denied reports in the media, insisting Regragui remains the head coach of the North African football powerhouse.
“The Royal Moroccan Football Federation categorically denies the information disseminated by certain media outlets regarding the resignation of the national team coach, Mr. Walid Regragui” the statement reads.
Just recently, Regragui led the team to the finals of the AFCON tournament, where the team succumbed to a narrow defeat to Senegal.
Morocco hoped to end their 50-year AFCON drought on home soil, but the Taranga Lions proved to be a stronger opponent, with midfielder Pape Gueye emerging as the hero after scoring the decisive goal in extra-time after Brahim Diaz had missed the penalty that had triggered the protest.
Having rubbished the reports, the highly rated tactician is expected to lead the Atlas Lions at the upcoming 2026 World Cup tournament to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The North African powerhouse are paired in Group C alongside record World Cup winners, Brazil, European side, Scotland and Haiti.
Morocco will open their account at the global showpiece in a high-stake clash against Brazil, followed by Scotland. The Atlas Lions will wrap up their group game against Haiti.
