Moroccan defender Jawad El Yamiq experienced a wildly dramatic night on his return debut for Real Zaragoza, squeezing almost every scenario football can offer into one game against Eibar in Spain’s Segunda División.
The match finished 1-1, but his personal storyline made it unforgettable.
El Yamiq began in the best possible way, rising highest in the 26th minute to head Zaragoza into the lead and ignite the home crowd, who welcomed him back as a defensive leader and a real threat on set pieces.
However, the script flipped after the break. In the 55th minute, misfortune struck as he accidentally turned the ball into his own net, gifting Eibar the equaliser and turning the joy of his opener into bitter disappointment.
Under huge psychological pressure, El Yamiq threw himself into his work, battling to preserve at least a point for his team. But in stoppage time, the drama reached its peak when he was shown a red card in the 90+3rd minute, leaving the pitch in disbelief.
By scoring, conceding an own goal and then being sent off, the Moroccan signed off on an extraordinary, almost cinematic first game back in Zaragoza colours.
