PSV Eindhoven are facing a key decision over the future of Moroccan defender Anass Salah-Eddine as discussions continue around activating a purchase option included in his current loan deal with AS Roma.
The 24-year-old left-back is spending the season on loan in Italy, but the agreement between PSV and Roma includes a clause allowing the Dutch club to bring him back permanently.
According to Eindhovens Dagblad, PSV are keen to extend Salah-Eddine’s stay in Eindhoven and have already made their intentions clear to the player.
The club is understood to be prepared to offer Salah-Eddine a five-year contract should he choose to commit his future to PSV.
If the option is triggered, PSV would be required to pay Roma a fee of eight million euros.
While the framework of the deal is in place, the final decision now rests largely with the player himself.
As reported by the Dutch newspaper, Salah-Eddine’s recent performances have drawn significant attention, placing him in a strong position.
“Un accord dépendra avant tout d’Anass Salah-Eddine lui-même, qui a suscité un vif intérêt après ses excellentes performances au PSV.”
Contractual preparations were made some time ago. When PSV and Roma agreed to the loan arrangement, both clubs also settled on the outlines of a preliminary long-term contract that would run until the middle of 2031, should the transfer become permanent.
This move was designed to ensure continuity if PSV decided to act on the purchase option, a scenario that now appears increasingly likely.
Salah-Eddine’s career path has taken several turns. After spending many years in Ajax’s academy, he struggled to secure a permanent place in the Amsterdam club’s first team.
A loan move to FC Twente followed, before he was signed outright by the club, where he went on to make 52 senior appearances.
His consistent performances at Twente caught the attention of AS Roma, who invested 8.5 million euros to bring him to Serie A. However, opportunities in Italy have been limited.
The defender has featured only three times for Roma, prompting speculation that a return to the Netherlands could be the most realistic next step.
With PSV open to finalising the deal and Roma already covered financially by the agreed clause, the coming weeks are expected to be decisive as Salah-Eddine weighs his options.
