Moroccan defender, Achraf Hakimi has become the world’s highest-paid defender after extending his stay with Paris Saint-Germain.
The former Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund defender will earn a staggering €70 million in wages having signed a new deal until 2029.
Hakimi has signed a contract extension with the French champions until 2029, the club announced on Friday.
According to Spanish sports daily Mundo Deportivo, the contract extension makes Hakimi the highest-paid fullback in world football, with his net salary increasing from €10 million to €14 million per season (€28 million gross).
The 25-year-old defender’s new contract, announced alongside extensions for Portuguese internationals Vitinha and Nuno Mendes, comes as part of PSG’s strategic move to secure key players’ futures.
The extension solidifies Hakimi as a linchpin of PSG, where he dons the mantle of vice-captain under coach Luis Enrique.
This season, the Moroccan defender has made 21 appearances in the French Ligue 1, contributing two goals. He has also featured in all eight Champions League matches, scoring once.
The agreement had been in place for several months, with Real Madrid’s inquiry about the player during Dani Carvajal’s injury being rejected due to the pre-existing commitment between PSG and Hakimi.
Since joining PSG in 2021, Hakimi has accumulated an impressive record of 17 goals and 27 assists in 147 appearances.
