Moroccan defender Achraf Dari has sent shockwaves through Egyptian giants Al Ahly after his contract with the club was terminated, a move that followed the decision to remove his name from the squad list to make room for fellow Moroccan Youssef Belamri.
The unexpected development has sparked reactions within the club, especially as Dari was believed to be fully committed to seeing out his deal.
Speaking on television, Zouhair Dari, the player’s father and agent, insisted that his son had shown complete professionalism and dedication to Al Ahly prior to being dropped from the registration list.
According to him, the contract termination hinges on two possible outcomes. The first option involves Al Ahly paying a sum of $2.5 million, which represents the remaining value of Dari’s contract until its expiration.
The Moroccan centre back earns an annual salary of $800,000, having joined the Cairo-based club in the summer of 2024 from French Ligue 1 side Stade Brestois.
Zouhair Dari further explained that the second option would see his son move to another club on loan, while maintaining the same salary structure. In that scenario, the wages would either be covered by Al Ahly or shared with the receiving club, depending on the agreement reached.
He also revealed that Achraf Dari is keen on making a return to European football and is not fully convinced about a potential move to the Gulf region, despite interest from clubs there.
The situation leaves Al Ahly facing a delicate decision as they weigh financial obligations against squad planning ahead of the new season.
