Issame Charai has officially left his role on Rangers’ coaching staff, marking the end of his brief but influential spell at Ibrox.
The Moroccan coach, who joined the Scottish club in January to work under Philippe Clément and was retained by interim boss Barry Ferguson, will not continue under new head coach Russell Martin.
Rangers confirmed the decision in a statement released on Friday, stating the departure came “by mutual agreement.”
Charai played a pivotal role during a turbulent time for the club, helping to steady the dressing room amid managerial changes earlier this year.
His work behind the scenes did not go unnoticed, with Rangers CEO Patrick Stewart offering high praise for the departing coach.
“Throughout the managerial transition in February and beyond, he performed superbly and was a real asset to Barry and his team,” Stewart said. “As the men’s first team enters this new era under Russell, it has been agreed between the club and Issame that he can leave.”
Charai, who is of Belgian-Moroccan heritage, shared a heartfelt farewell with supporters and the club.
In his message, he expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to serve at one of Scotland’s most storied football institutions.
“This is a truly special club and as it enters a new era, I wish everyone associated with the club the very best for the future,” Charai said. “First and foremost, I would like to thank the Rangers fans for their outstanding support throughout.”
His exit signals a fresh chapter at Ibrox as newly appointed manager Russell Martin begins assembling his backroom staff.
The departure is seen as part of a broader restructuring effort aimed at shaping a team around Martin’s vision and coaching philosophy.
While Charai’s time in Glasgow was relatively short, his contribution during a volatile transition period helped lay the foundation for a more stable environment heading into the 2025–26 season.
As Rangers move forward, attention will now turn to who will join Martin’s staff and how the new leadership will shape the squad both on and off the pitch.
The club has yet to announce a replacement for Charai, leaving a key vacancy in the technical team ahead of pre-season preparations.
