Moreirense sign Zambia midfielder Chipyoka Songa from Hapoel Petah Tikva

Zambia attacking midfielder Chipyoka Songa has joined Moreirense from Israel’s Hapoel Petah Tikva in a €750,000 transfer.

The 21-year-old, who was born in Lusaka, has moved to Portugal after spending the previous season with Hapoel Petah Tikva in the Israeli top flight. He becomes a Liga Portugal player as Moreirense strengthen their midfield options with a right-footed player whose preferred position is attacking midfield.

Songa’s move was completed on 4 September 2026, with the transfer taking place during the opening weeks of the 2026-27 season. He had not featured for Hapoel Petah Tikva in the league campaign before switching clubs, recording no appearances, goals or assists in the two possible matches listed.

The transfer represents a significant rise in value for Songa since his previous permanent move. Hapoel Petah Tikva signed him from ZESCO United in July 2025 for €90,000, after he had initially joined the Israeli club on loan the previous season for a €50,000 fee.

That loan followed a spell with ZESCO United, where Songa had returned after spending part of the 2023-24 campaign on loan at Ness Ziona. He first joined ZESCO United from Lusaka Dynamos in July 2022, having begun his senior club career with the Lusaka-based side.

Songa’s market value was listed at €600,000 before the move to Moreirense, placing the agreed fee above that figure. The Portuguese club’s decision adds another stage to the midfielder’s career after his progression from Zambia into European football through Israel.

Moreirense compete in Liga Portugal, while Hapoel Petah Tikva play in the Ligat ha’Al. The move therefore takes Songa into a new league and country, with the player now under contract at the Portuguese club until 30 June 2031.

Songa has completed his transfer to Moreirense and is contracted to the club through June 2031.
