Senegal is gearing up in a big way for their crucial Group G Africa Cup of Nations 2015 qualifier against Egypt this Friday. Here are the key points from their recent preparations:

  • Training Session at Léopold Senghor Stadium:
Senegal held a rare evening training session at the renovated Léopold Senghor stadium in Dakar. This was their first session there since the stadium was suspended for two years after incidents in 2012.

  • Huge Fan Support:
Over 20,000 passionate fans, dressed in national colors, showed up to support the team, creating an electrifying atmosphere reminiscent of a match day.

  • Stampede Incident:
Unfortunately, the large crowd caused a stampede just an hour before the team’s arrival, injuring eight young people. Thankfully, their injuries were not severe.

  • Team Spirit and Determination:
The Senegalese players, including stars like Moussa Sow, Dame Ndoye, Mame Birame Diouf, and Sadio Mané, expressed that the incredible fan support reinforces their determination to win the match.

  • Logistics:
After the training, the team returned to their base in Saly Portudal (about 70 km from Dakar) and will head back to Dakar on Thursday night to finalize preparations just before the match at 8 p.m. on Friday.

This return to their home stadium symbolizes a fresh start and a strong statement ahead of a key qualifier. Senegal looks motivated to impress both on the pitch and with the support of their passionate fans.
