More Spanish second-tier fixtures postponed after death of Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel

Granada’s match against Tenerife and Andorra’s meeting with Mallorca have been postponed following the death of Tenerife striker Jesus de Miguel.

The Spanish league confirmed the decisions after de Miguel died in hospital on Tuesday morning from injuries sustained in a collision with Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono during the clubs’ match.

Granada had been due to host Tenerife at Los Carmenes on Saturday, 7 November 2026. Andorra were scheduled to welcome Mallorca the following day, Sunday, 8 November 2026.

The league said new dates for both fixtures would be announced in due course, citing the exceptional circumstances surrounding de Miguel’s death.

The postponements were made after requests from the two clubs involved in the match in which the fatal incident occurred. According to Spanish newspaper Marca, the decision was intended to respect the mourning of Tenerife’s players and supporters after the tragedy that has affected the club.

The Spanish Football Federation also announced on Tuesday evening that the round of Copa del Rey matches would be suspended as a mark of respect for the player.

The status of the remaining fixtures is still unclear. It has not yet been confirmed whether the suspension will apply to all matches in the round or only to the game involving Tenerife.

Granada and Mallorca back postponements

Granada and Mallorca both said they understood the circumstances that had led to their fixtures being called off and supported the decision.

The clubs expressed their backing for the postponements as the Spanish football community continues to respond to the tragedy surrounding de Miguel’s death.

The rescheduled dates for Granada v Tenerife and Andorra v Mallorca will be confirmed at a later stage.
